Mounting
Presenting Art – Mounting
There are many methods and techniques in mounting artwork into frames. Many are familiar with window mounting which up until recent times has been perceived as a little old fashioned.
All trends in the last few years have been towards float mounting for box framing but there seems to be a swing back towards the older methods once again.
When asking to have your work mounted always ensures that you are getting acid free mounts and correct installation methods. Once you are satisfied with the quality and longevity of what you’re getting there are some other mounting methods that one might consider.
Float and mount -This is where the work floats within the window of the mount.
Deep bevel mount - An extra deep bevel is installed here to add great depth to the work.
Double and triple mounts - stacking mounts on top of one another often in alternative colours.
Shadow mount - Stacking mounts on top of each other with a space between each mount.
Mount with slip - Putting an extra small moulding on the inside of a widow mount.
Laid on - Floating a work on paper directly onto a mount board for box framing.
Raise and float - This is the same as “laid on” except the work is slightly raised off the mount board to show the edges off to full effect.
